Update 2009

Print

Dear sponsors and donors,

I just want to update you on our 2009 achievements, a lot in fact has been done and your investment has been worth every penny, your reward and return of your investment will be in the outcome of the lives of our children.

Fila Farm

For a long time we did not have a farmer, all the farm work had to be done by myself and my assistant, but since October we have had a missionary from RSA who is not by profession a farmer, but is learning fast on how to manage the farm and make a profit.
There has definitely been an increase in our cattle production, the only problem has been that the increase where bulls instead of heifers. We have of course little control over that apart from the fact that we have changed the bull who produced the seamen for artificial insemination. Lets wait and see.
In 2008 the pigs moved into their new pigsty and the old one has been renovated this year and is used as a stable for the cows.
We established our farm kitchen with a cheese making installation of 200 liters, and the room for cheese drying with air-conditioning. In the near future we will start cheese making after we have obtained the ingredients needed.

Lewis Chikhwaza Christian Academy

We had 56 children at the primary school, our school year starts in January, there are 72 at present.
The children have performed well in the last school year and we have every reason to be proud of them.
A new learning center has been build, this will be an on going exercise because we get new students every year.
We have been blessed with a new missionary from the UK who has dedicated herself to teaching in the school and two new Malawi teachers/monitors have been added to the staff at LCCA.
We received 32 laptops for the learning center and there are an other 32 on the way.

Kegels Early learning Center

Five new classrooms were added to the school, we now have a computer room with computers for the little ones too. We have a new principal, the previous one had done her two years commitment and wanted to go home to RSA. Our new principal is a great lady, she was born in Trinidad and bought up in New York, she is very dedicated.

Kondanani Children's Village

We build 2 very big store rooms, just in time before the container arrived from Holland.
A new borehole was drilled and a water tower build.
A garage were the mechanic can maintain our cars.
We build a new laundry with 10 large cement basins, all washing is done by hand, washing machines don't last.
A new staff house has been build and occupied by my assistant Cherie.

Madalo Children's Village

One new house for the bigger children has been completed and they have moved in, an other house is 90% ready. We build a new water tower in between these houses to increase water pressure and water flow.

Rory Alec Clinic

It is empty at present, the next phase will come soon, we have the vision before us, first it will be re painted.

Caring Hands Infant Home

At last, this building which took 1 1/2 years to be completed, is ready. It is a 600 square meters facility. The children have moved in. The Rory Alec Clinic was full and for some time we could not take new babies. Twelve of the children from the clinic moved into a house vacated by the children who came to Madalo Village. There are 41 children at Caring Hands, 7 new babies have arrived already and an other 13 are coming in the next 2 weeks.

I hope you are happy with the achievements of 2009.
Annie Chikhwaza.
